Our Friend the Wind
By Grass, Class 3b
My report is on Our Friend the Wind. Our Friend the Wind is very important for plants and especially Seedlings like me and my friends. Here are reasons why it is so important.
First of all, Our Friend the Wind is good at blowing Seeds away from their parents and letting them find a new home to grow in. Sometimes Our Friend the Wind gets confused and the Seeds end up on asphalt or somebody’s hair but most of the time it does a pretty good job. I looked it up and this is called anemochory.
Our Friend the Wind also helps make seeds in the first place. Some big Trees drop a bunch of pollen that then lands on other Trees. When it gets to other Trees the pollen lands on some eggs and then you get Seeds. But if there was no Wind the pollen would just fall and there wouldn’t be any seeds and I wouldn’t exist. And neither would my friends.
Finally, Our Friend the Wind helps us grow strong. When Our Friend the Wind blows on us, sometimes we get cold or scared that we might break. But my mom says that every time the Wind blows on us we make more auxin, which is a hormone that makes us grow more cells. When we have more cells we get stronger and then we don’t break as much. So if the Wind didn’t blow on us, we’d break and fall over more and that wouldn’t be good.
In conclusion, the Wind is a good friend. I’m very happy we live in a world with it because otherwise I wouldn’t exist and probably my friends wouldn’t either and maybe even my teacher. Plants everywhere shout “Hooray!” for Our Friend the Wind.
The End.
